Lepsira is the brand name of an injectable solution of Levetiracetam, produced by Viralian Company. According to the Martindale drug reference, this medication is classified in the group of Antiepileptics and is used as a pyrrolidine derivative to control various types of seizures.

Lepsira is indicated for the treatment of partial (focal) seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and myoclonic seizures in both adults and children. The injectable form is used when oral administration is not feasible, typically in acute conditions or hospital settings via intravenous injection.

This drug works by binding to the synaptic vesicle protein SV2A in the brain, regulating neurotransmitter release and preventing excessive neuronal activity without significant effects on ion channels or GABA and glutamate receptors.

Lepsira is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or other pyrrolidine derivatives and in cases of severe renal impairment without appropriate dose adjustment. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, irritability, and, rarely, mood changes, which usually resolve with dose adjustment or gradual discontinuation.
