Berny (generic name: Fosfomycin) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from phosphonic acid, manufactured by So.Se.Pharm, Italy. It belongs to the pharmacological group of urinary antiseptics and antibacterials and is specifically indicated for the treatment of acute uncomplicated cystitis (bladder infection) in adult women.
Berny is available in the form of a 3 g oral sachet, providing effective treatment with a single dose, a major advantage that distinguishes it from many other antibiotics in the same class.
Indications include the treatment of uncomplicated bladder infections, bacterial prostatitis, and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Contraindications include hypersensitivity to fosfomycin or any component of the formulation, severe renal impairment, and use in children under 12 years of age. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be carried out under medical supervision.
Possible side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, and headache. In addition to its antibacterial action, Berny has been shown to exert anti-inflammatory effects and to promote collagen synthesis and angiogenesis, thereby supporting the healing of surgical wounds.
